There are many physical problems associated with sinusitis. Some of those problems may not seem like they are actually a function of your sinus problems. Tooth pain is one of those seemingly unrelated problems. Tooth pain has been documented as a specific problem that can be caused by a sinus infection. This association of sinusitis with those kinds of physical manifestations leads to another often asked question, can sinusitis impair vision?

It seems like a very logical question. The sinuses are located near the eye. It seems possible that an infection in those areas might spread or lead to problems with your eyes.

The documented answer to that question is, no, in general sinus problems do not lead to vision problems. There have not been any studies that show a general link between infected sinuses and vision problems. Most experts agree that there is little or no effect on your eyes in any way.

That being said, there are many who suffer from sinus problems who complain of blurred or impaired vision and then state that when their infection was cleared up their vision also cleared up.

The vision link to sinusitis has not ever been established clinically. It is possible that other symptoms that sinusitis is responsible for may indirectly effect vision. For example, people who suffer migraines often have vision problems. It is possible that sinus problems can trigger migraines and that can be a cause of vision impairment.

Even though in general there is no direct link to vision impairment, there are those rare exceptions that can occur which can have a negative effect on your vision. There are rare occasions where mucus filled cysts can form in the sinus area. These cysts can create conditions that have the potential to effect vision. These are extremely rare.

There is also a possibility, although this is also extremely rare, where the eye socket can become infected. These very unusual cases of infection are very serious complications of a severe ethmoid sinus infection. When this happens it is usually accompanied by severe fever and illness.

To the original question, can sinusitis impair vision? The answer is no, sinus problems do not generally lead to vision or eye problems. There are rare conditions that can lead to some vision impairment but they are few and far between. In those instances you would generally have many other severe symptoms and should be aware that something was very wrong.

I must stress that if you are having any problems at all with your eyes or your vision you need to see a health professional right away. Do not try to self diagnose the cause, just get yourself to a doctor.

Your eyes and vision are much to precious to fool around with. See your health professional and let them find out what the cause is. They will be able diagnose and treat what ever condition is creating the problem.
